Come see Watsak’s work on the 5th floor curved wall (EXHIBITOR E-04, WALL SECTION A) from Tuesday 14 October through Sunday 26 October and meet Watsak in person during the convention on the weekend of the 25th and 26th (BOOTH A-06)!
EXHIBITOR & VENDOR
Watsak is an author and storyteller building the world of Maihua — a universe of original characters and stories expressed through zines, books, and merchandise. His current creative process is deeply connected to the Japanese language, his personal interest since childhood: He studies its words and grammar and transforms them into seeds of inspiration. Each story, drawing, and object becomes a kind of personal magic, where language learning and imagination intertwine to bring the Maihua world to life.
about the artwork…
MAIHUA COMICS JOURNEY
There are three sets of works shown here. The first row features Maihua Kanji Comics—a series of four-panel stories inspired by individual Kanji characters, which I have already compiled into a zine format. The second row presents Maihua Comic Journal, illustrations originally created to accompany my blog posts reflecting on how I come to make comics. You can find more of these posts at www.watsak.com, as I plan to gather many of them into a future volume. The third row shows Maihua Comics, works that began through trials and errors but are now developing into longer pieces, branching into series that follow the main characters of the Maihua universe. For this event, I plan to collect both the Comic Journal and Maihua Comics into new zines, so that all three bodies of work can stand side by side and highlight different dimensions of the Maihua project.
Right now Watsak is expanding his zines, telling stories through journals, fiction, and those spaces in between. He is also working on an art toy project, with the hope of debuting it at the fair. Unfortunately, he doesn't have activities projects yet, only showcasing his works and selling them.
Meet Watsak at his booth (A-06) and check out his merchandise at during the BKK Comics Art Festival convention on the weekend of 25-26 October!
