bkk UNZINE presents Comics Club 

The goal of Comics Club is to teach aspects of comics creation with a guided application.

And this time we will be teaching how to draw backgrounds, especially interiors for comics.

Observe and draw the human body as it naturally poses during this live modeling session. Admission fee is 400 THB in advance or 500 THB at the door.

Drink & Draw is a monthly event that takes place at Lemonade.date.night bar in Bangkok, located near BTS sky-train station Ari.

All art supplies are provided. We request a 100 thb donation to help us continue doing more events like this.

We have the pleasure to collaborate with Baturu art space to bring you a one of a kind workshop at UNZINE 95. 

We’d like to invite you to “Workshop title” by cartoonist Ivan Velez whose career spans 35-years with groundbreaking work in American mainstream and independent comics.  

The workshop will focus on how to use social issues, multicultural and gender diversity to create compelling and poignant stories. You’ll create characters of many different shapes and backgrounds and come up with a plan and story structure to propel your comics into people’s hearts.

All art supplies will be provided.

Time: 2 to 4pm

What to expect: 

1. (10 – 15 minutes) Intro to Ivan Velez and a short visual history of his work and place in the world of progressive comics.

2. (10 minutes) Some demos about character creation and picking the themes for your work. Typical samples will be the use of our myths and legends to tell stories that are worthy of today’s attention.

3. (20 – 30 minutes) Participants will draw and design characters and come up with a basic plot and ‘pitch’ for their stories.  The instructor will help with guidance and methods as they try to create.

4. (10 minutes) A short break to stretch and use the bathroom.

5. (15 minutes) A final soft critique of their work and suggestions on how to move forward with their ideas.  

6. (5 minutes) A last word where to publish their work (mostly digitally and online, but also actual print).

7. (10 minutes) Q & A
